What is it nowadays? So many young people are going to one extreme or another. Some girls are jumping from one guy to the next, while others are staying with the same guy for a year or more. Are we honestly ready for that type of commitment this early in life? Some say they are, and that it's worth every minute. Yet people who are not in a serious relationship say that those people are missing out on so much because they are concerned only with what's going on in each others' lives .
I can see both points on this argument. I've never been in a really serious relationship, but I do know what it's like to cancel plans with your friends because there might be a chance of you going out with your boyfriend that night. You can lose some of your closest friends when you're in a serious relationship because you aren't making enough time for them. There is also the side that you are having the time of your life with your boyfriend, thinking that you're falling in love with him. To be honest, very few high school relationships make it past high school. I guess my biggest question is who gets the better deal?
There's another side to this debate, and that's the fact that maybe the girls jump from guy to guy have a much better time. Think about it...they can have a new guy every week if they please. When they get bored of him or angry about something, they can ditch him for someone new and perhaps more promising than the last. They claim that this way is much better because they are never really tied down, and can do what they want when they want. They don't have to answer to anyone but themselves.
There's one big flaw with this plan, and that's the fact that you get tired of getting to know every new guy, and discovering his faults after you're going out. It would be tiring going through the same conversations over and over again, finding where you both stand on certain issues, and what he likes and dislikes, etc.. So what's the better deal? A serious relationship seems to be what most of us are looking for, but is it the right way to go? It can be a wonderful thing if you handle everything that comes with it, the good and the bad. But there's also the fun of seeing different people, and not getting serious about any of them, saving you pain in the end. Either way you can get bored if he's not the right person for you.
I used to be one of those people that couldn't stay tied down to one person for any length of time. Then I discovered this neat little trick. If you take the time to really get to know someone before you go out with them, you can figure out ahead of time if you're right for each other. Even if it means being single for a while, the results are definitely worth the wait. So what's the solution? Not date at all? I hope not.
